Every so often my mouse locks up and then I have to restart the computer. On booting up the mouse works. I was using a wired mouse and wondered if there was a problem with wire or connections so bought a wireless optical usb mouse and this is experiencing the same problems. The wireless mouse is compatible with Xp and no additional software is needed. The receiver is responding to the transmitter and the last time it locked up I noticed that the scroll wheel was responding but not either left or right button.Any ideas please to what to try next?

The best appear to be Logitech using Setpoint software.
First try a different USB port for the receiver connection and check software updates.

Thanks Albags Have done that will now have to wait and see what happens as it is spasmodic when mouse locks up.
What are you using the mouse on? do you have a patterned mouse mat?

I previously had a problem with an optical mouse doing the same thing as yours. By a process of elimination I worked out that it was my patterned mouse mat causing the problem. The same mouse worked perfectly on a plain black surface.

Yesterday I used the wired mouse for over 6 hours continuously with no problem. Went on in the evening and after about 1hour it locked up. Plugged in the wireless mouse without switching off and the wireless mouse worked. Am using the wireless mouse on plain non reflective surface. Wired mouse not working this am. No real logic to the problem
