CanoScan N124OU

I have a CanoScan N124OU, a light weight flatbed scanner. It was working a few weeks ago when it was first installed, but now something seems to be wrong that I cannot identify. Whenever I click to scan or copy, a dialogue box tells me 'Unable to select TWAIN source'. What does it mean by TWAIN source - can anyone help me please?

I would remove and reinstall the software for the scanner and see how that goes.
