When I print a document, the type is not clear and sharp, it appears to have a shadow print giving a double print effect.

run the head alignment utility.

Whats that?
You should find that utility by (roughly) the following route. (I can't be precise because the method varies depending upon which version of Windows you're using and which printer you've got):

Go to Start > Printers & Faxes

Right-click on the icon for your printer.

Select 'Properties'.

Click on the 'Maintenance' tab.

Click on 'Print head alignment'

Many thanks.

Just looked - there is no Maintenance tab!
Every printer is different. What do you actually see there? Is there something like 'set up', 'tools' or 'utilities'?

Alternatively, if you tell us which printer you're using we might be able to track down the relevant information.
Try removing the toner & re-insert after 5secs. The printer will calibrate or print out a test paper.
Are you using Microsoft Blank Word Processor Document, because you are probably using the wrong `type`, Click on `Times New Roman` in the left column and click on the down arrow to choose the type you want.
