For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I find iTunes to be the best of the paid for sites. It is simple and reliable to use and has plenty of features. You pay for tracks or whole CDs on credit card as you purchase them. Virgin is also good but operates a different payment system where you have to buy credits in advance. A really good feature is being able to listen to a whole track for one penny rather than 30 seconds for nothing on iTunes. The Virgin search facility is nowhere near as good as iTunes though.
I used Napster which is unlimited downloads for �10 a month. However you can only use them on the PC on which you downloaded them. Personally that suits me fine but that may be a problem for some. The advantage over the free ones is I know as soon as I click download it's going to be downloaded fast, virus free and the song I wanted. I just got really tired of either not finding what I wanted, not getting what it said it was or various other problems. As for andy hughes comment about old pop songs, napster has pretty much every thing I have ever looked for. They have the UK top 40 singles and albums going back to 1960.
