New Mac not working with TalkTalk/Tiscali broadband

Hi does anyone recommend what I should do next.
Saved for ages and got a lovely new mac. Tried to log in and the broadband doesn't seem to work with it. I called Talk Talk not overly helpful and don't know if it's the right old disc I have to put in the mac. Saw somewhere else that you should have wireless for mac.

Will I be able to get it work short term on the TT wired modem thing or should I change provider and if so what should I get?
Really frustrating and I have only 'one phonecall' option to Apple so wanted to get some advice first. Many thanks Mai

Are you trying to connect via ethernet or wirelessly?

I don't have wireless at the moment with TalkTalk just a plug in modem thing. I know I will need to go to wireless and select someone else but wondered in the interim if I can get it to work with this old sytsem. Or someone told met today to try to get wireless option from TT - but didn't want to tie into them for a longer period if I'm just as well getting something new now (if that all makes sense). Still working on my old rubbish dell!

If,and when, you decide to change provider, note than Zen and O2 get consistently good reviews by Which? magazine.
