when I enter something on answerbank - I get

an ampersand and nbsp: - where does this come from and how do I get rid of it?

Use the word "and" or the plus symbol instead of the ampersand.
In html, the ampersand is used quite a bit to code special characters and AB's computers tend to think that you're trying to enter the html code of one of these rather than just rendering your ampersand as an ampersand alone.
