Are these any good or are they a gimmick - I am considering buying one for my husband for Christmas. Does anyone know what sort of price I would be looking at? Thanks.

Well they are (apart from PC Blueray with connection to TV) about the only way of supplying HD to your TV (apart from HD Freeview or Freesat)
Cheapest is around £40 .. and up to a few thousand.
Try and buy a decent brand .. like Pioneer .. Samsung .. Philips ..something like that.
(Before someone says .. NOT incl. Gaming devices)

Thanks for that - i didn't realise that they were so cheap, that's his present sorted then.
Well nor did I!
They have tumbled this year .. particularly as the HDMI standard is pretty well defined now, and all the manufacturers are using it to move about HD content.
Assuming you have a HD capable Television or your gonna be wasting your money!
