Not quite.
windows doesn't come with the codecs to play DVD's out the box as they are licensed codecs (although most computers come with some DVD software pre-installed so people think it will play DVDs)
There are a few free options to make DVDs work without having to buy DVD software, one is to install the klite codec pack

I'd suggest removing the tick from the windows media player classic option during the install, everything else can be left default.
(all this assumes you do actually have a working DVD drive in your computer)
