Mum has a dell inspiron and had to be rebooted with windows vista home premium, so she bought a disc but doesn't come with a product key, I thought there was a way of retrieving your own product key, but she has lost documents to her computer! :( is there anything we can do fir her to get her original product key? Would windows help if I phoned or dell?? Plz help guys xx
If you download the following Keyfinder and run the application it should display your Windows key (it works on XP and probably works on later versions):
Firstly, you say she bought a disc which didn't come with a product key. Are you saying she bought a pirate copy of Windows...?
Secondly, the (faded) key on the Dell PC will (almost) certainly work only for a Dell-branded copy of Windows (known as an OEM copy), so even if you could read it it wouldn't be accepted by a retail copy of Windows...
The Dell helpline will supply a replacement copy of the original Windows O/S disk, free of charge, after you're transferred to their Indian call centre. You won't need a Product Key for this installation. When I did this recently the call centre rang every day until I confirmed receipt of the disks.
Apparently my computer doesnt need a product key , and i should of got a disc with this but i never, so they are sending me one and i will let u all know how it goes x
