Just bought an Opticom B500 corded telephone with caller display and answering machine.

In the booklet it says "The Caller Display feature of this product requires a subscription to Caller Display service from your telephone company".

Sure enough when I have connected the phone it does not display the callers number in the screen.

Do I have to pay to get the callers number displayed on the telephone?

I assumed it would automatically happen (similar to my mobile phone).

i'm with bt and it;s free but you hae to add it to your line
It is an add-on feature. I have it with BT but pay about £8 per quarter so I don't know how Dotty gets it free.
When we were with BT we had to request the service but there was no charge. We're now with Sky and caller ID and 1571 are included foc without asking.
i get it free with sky telephone service
I get it free with Sky and also got it free with the Post Office.
I think it's free with BT if you have a calling plan or at least make some charged calls through them. If you just have line rental (and have your calls with someone else) it's chargeable

It still has be be specifically enabled either way.
It's free now .. and you shouldn't be paying for it.
Check extras on bill first.
I pay 50p a month for the service with talktalk!..........I don't mind, at least I know who's calling me before I answer, and am able to screen my calls!..........
it's definately free, it's an add on as part of the call package which is bt anytime i think
well, I know that talktalk charge an extra 50p a month for the service, but I think it's well worth it!......
you also have to allow others to see your phone number. We opted out of caller display because we are ex directory and like it that way
woofgang... you can still type 141 before the number you're calling to hide your number.
Virgin charge about £2 a month for it.
