Can anyone tell me of a true pay as you go Dongle. All of the ones I have enquired about you have to use within a time period, except for Orange and then I can only do £2 a day with no option to buy more on that day. I am told this is a fair way of accessing the internet, but how is it fair to me if I have paid for the access and then it expires before I use it. I have a pay as you go phone and the same £20 sits on it forever as I only use it in emergencies. I want the same system with a dongle.

£2 a day for 500mb. A day starts when you purchase the access and ends 24 hours later, when you can spend another £2.

You'd have to be doing some heavy duty downloading to use all your data in 24 hours

If you can afford £2 a day on an internet dongle, Im sure you can afford a proper internet connection through a phone line and it will work out cheaper and be unlimited usage!
i think mudlet wants to buy the access and then use it when they want, not within an expiry period.

my dongle is on contract with orange - its only £12 pm though
I've just bought a Vodafone Pay As You Go Dongle. £19.99 from Currys. My husband wants to use it while he's in hospital. It came with 1.5 hours on it and can be topped up on line as and when, just like a phone. It worked brilliantly this afternoon.
How much broadband do you get for that? I have an O2 dongle at £15 for 2G for 30 days which is more than enough for my needs as I very rarely download anything, just browse and send emails (and talk on here, of course). Considering that 50p per day is half the price of my newspaper I consider it could value. I do take the point about expiry limits though. I topped up my O2 mobile with £20 two years ago and I've still got £14 left.
<good value>!
are you contracted to a provider with these dongles or can you swap and change if a better deal comes along.
Either. If you have a contract the dongle is normally free, but time limits still apply. With PAYG you can obviously change if you want to, but have to buy a new dongle each time. They must have gone down in price as I paid £38 for my O2 one 18 months ago.
My friends daughter recently purchased this for use when shes away to work in london . Works out at £10 per month for 2ghb
Surely it costs as much as you want to use it for, so how can you quantify it monthly? How long is a piece of string?
True, but once the time period is up any unused allowance is lost. Obviously you can top up before that if you run out.
can you use them for internet acess on a PS3.
Now you're getting technical:-) What's a PS3?
Gotcha mike. This is really just for use while hubby is away.
playstation 3
I only want internet access, not extra TV (apart form Freeview) or different phone provider, so it suits me fine. Apart from introductory offers I think you would be hard pushed to get a contract with BT, Sky or Virgin for much less than £15 per month, plus you don't have the hassle of having to ring an Indian call centre every other day when it starts acting up.
Tank you Hopkirk. Now it all becomes clear!
