The user manuel suggests that the front panel opens to access various controls, I feel daft asking this but does anyone know how to open it ?

Top left of the panel should have a little recess, just pull it down.

(i've not got one, that was from a quick google, the same places I found that answer are also saying there is one of those clear plastic films over the remote window which unless you remove it the remote control range is rubbish)
no it's on the far right (front) under the main panel get your fingenail into the right of the flap and pull open
btw humax have not replied to many e-mails ive sent them under "contact us" this seems to be by all accounts the norm for humax

thanks to you both, it's the fingernail in either left or right.
the plastic film has been removed chuck, the remote has to be directly in line (difficult at a tangent)
right... its a usb port only under the flap

well ive got a hdr fox t2 (freeview hd) might be different if yours is fox t2 freestat

well mines excellent too whiskey i dont want a dish installed for £80 4 hd channels ok for me and more coming when analogue is switched off here nov'

good for you mate,the only reason we went for freesat is because we had Sky until we gave it up, like you we get all we need to watch without parting with MONEY. Ron.
ive got a freeview hdr humax 500gb and the picture in fact the whole thing is better than my dads humax T2 freesat deggers, i'm with you on that
ron i know there more pricy than most freeview hd pvrs but have to admit both are one hell of a performer
