Asleep Macbook pro?

I have just got a Macbook Pro. It was plugged in and shown vaguely to me. I then closed it down for the night. I then left it for a few days (switched off at the wall) waiting for the man to come and do me a tutorial. I switched it all on last night and there seems to be no power. I can't get it to do anything, even if I hold the power button down for a few secs.
Any idea what's wrong with it?
Thanks

Is the power cord plugged in when you try to start it up? If not, maybe the battery is flat.

Yes the power cord is in an plugged in etc. Any idea what I can do about the battery?
Regardless of whether the battery is charged or not, if you have the power cord plugged in it should start up (the battery will automatically recharge from the mains power as you use the laptop).

If it is not starting up at all I'm not sure... have you checked the fuse in the mains plug? Maybe you have a faulty power cord. Is the laptop new or used/second hand?
Occasionally they can get stuck in sleep. Mine did it about a month ago, 3 years old no problem before and none since. However in addition to Snags' suggestions, unclip and take out the battery, leave for 5 minutes and then put it back. Some base settings are reset by this. It may start up, mine did. Try with power attached

It's not the fuse, as the speakers work fine and have a power light, as does the printer. How do I remove the battery? Not even sure where it is!
''It's not the fuse, as the speakers work fine and have a power light''

Eh? Yesterday you said: ''I switched it all on last night and there seems to be no power. I can't get it to do anything''

''How do I remove the battery? Not even sure where it is! ''

Depends what year/model it is...
Turn the laptop upside down, the battery is generally held in by a large captive screw which can be rotated (1/4 turn) by a 2p coin (Older Macbook pros) or the newer ones have a pair of slide clips which you push forward to release

snags... there is no power to the Mac. No lights on it. BUT there is power coming from the plug as the printer and speakers are lit up.
When you plug the power supply into the mac, is there a light at the end connecting to the mac, Green charged, orange charging? If not is the power "brick" warm?
