Just been sent one of these, set it all up OK & have my home network secured & whatnot but when I look at ‘available connections’ there’s now BTFON & BTOpenzone available as unsecured networks alongside my home hub network.
By a process of elimination (pulling the plug on my hub) I’ve established that it’s me providing these services?
How can I opt out of being a wifi provider for all and sundry?

Log into the admin pages for the hub and turn off the extra access points.

It's not such a bad thing though, the public network is kept totally seperate to your home network so there is no security risk and the bandwidth available for the public side of the hub is limited so it won't effect your browsing. by providing public access for others it also lets you use others BTopenzone/fon hotspots while you are out and about.

I have BT with the home hub. To opt out you can go on your Hub manager program. If you do opt out you will no longer be able to use the wifi conection while your out and about. Basicly by letting your home hub send out a free wifi signal to others It let you be able to use other peoples, but if you cancle it you can't use the other hot spots around the country. Your lucky yours is working,It took over 3 months for BT to update my hub to let me opt in!

Can you not just turn the extra AP off on a homehub then, rav?

To be honest I was basing my answer on BT business hubs and on those you can simply turn off the extra AP and you still get a limited amount of minutes you can use on other hotspots even if you do switch yours off.

Many thanks, had a trawl 'round the hub manager pages. A couple of points before I opt out. Does anyone using my hub through FON or Openzone count toward my monthly Gb allowance and more worryingly, what if someone was to use it to download something undesirable? Would it appear that I’d downloaded it because it‘s going through my hub? :-S

BTW Chuck, yep, opting out of the FON sharing service means that you can’t use the BT openzone hotspots foc. Sneaky marketing by BT. And you have to opt out by e-mail? :-S
