sound Fault

I have a problem where i try and load a game in Windows 98 and i get a window flash up with the yellow triangle symble and a ! inside. The warning then say's "Unable to play sound - the advanced sound system is in use by another application" As far as i'am aware there is not another program running when i get this message?? Can anyone offer some advice on how to cure this fault??

Start-Control Panel-System-Hardware-Device Manager. now check all the audio devices present, look for any conflicts. If you have a sound card installed, uninstall it from the device manager and re-start your pc. It should re discover it and try to re-install. Check that you have all the discs for it first, in case you need to install it's driver from disc.
