Changing downloads to VLC

For some reason my downloads have changed from opening with vlc to windows media and I do not like it, please how can I change it back. I've looked at all options on utorrent and downloads but haven't a clue, many thanks x

Right click on any media file to get a menu, select "open with" then "choose default program"

Select the program you want to open the file then MAKE SURE the "always use this program to open this type of file".

Click OK and it should work.

Note you may need to do this with each different type of media file (AVI, MOV etc)

Note the wording might be slightly different between versions of Windows.

Note that Windows 7 does have a "Default Programs" option in the Control Panel and you can do a similar thing there (note sure if it is in Vista or not).

So you can set VLC to be the default program for all media files.

If you go into the Control Panel and are looking at it in Category View then choose the "Programs" option and "Defauilt Programs" in an option under there.

WMP often does this.
Open WMP, go to settings and file types ..
Make sure everything is unchecked.
