Just an update. After over an hour on phone, most of it on hold, and a distinct lack of help online from beefcake Nathan at the site, have installed AVG. 30 days free trial, then pay, I guess. Thanks everyone for all the help and support.
You don't ever have to go on the ruddy phone to Norton .. well Symantec to renew or register at all. : )
One thing ... It would have been a lot better than changing to AVG.
If you want free .. why not use Microsoft Security Essentials?
Norton are ace when renewing..............I just instant message them, they take over my PC. de-install and re-install , job done. Always very helpful and friendly.
Nahhh! Adaware is crap now .. invasive itself. Bloated with all sorts of adware and pop-ups, etc. Adaware was best in 2005/6, then went downhill from there.
For basic web browsing Windows XP and later firewall is ok, but should/be substituted by better one if you want to improve.
Norton Live help .. OK.
Just use Norton Anti-Virus or Internet Security if you want a better Firewall system.
Malwarebytes will do the rest ... or Spybot.
Thanks all. The whole point is that Symantec refuse to accept my debit card number. As it is Visa and I hear there were Visa problems on the Olympic ticket site, maybe there is a problem with that card.Much appreciate all the suggestions and will act upon them now. Cheers all!
If you decide to abandon Norton it's important that you should completely uninstall it (otherwise conflicts can arise between Norton's components and any other security software you might choose to use).
