Anyone get married in Malta?

Mic, Qwara and Bugibba are just awful! if you visit there first you'd never go back!........St. Julian's and surrounding area is the best area to visit!.....

Trouble with you micmak, is, if I remember correctly you live in the Yorkshire Dales and therefore anywhere else would be hard pushed to live up to their beauty:-)

Ah now micmak, I know where you're coming from now - I stayed at the Qawra Palace about twenty years ago. The area is nastily built up and a long way out from the centre - that part hasn't changed much, but believe me, the rest of Malta is not like that. We stayed at St George's Bay last summer and it was fabulous - wonderful hotel, private sandy beach a five minute walk away.

Malta was the very first place I went to "abroad" when I was 15. We went on a BA Tristar and stayed at the Corinthia Palace Hotel. People dressed in long dresses for dinner in the dining room and Ronnie Corbett was staying there. I`ve never been back to Malta since. It would be interesting to see if it has changed (I doubt it, somehow).

That`s nice to know. It was in San Anton if I remember rightly. It had a Lebanese night club called Al Hambra and myself and my cousin thought we were very sophisticated when we went in there.

I got married in malta in 2004. I am not RC, in fact no religion. The hotel sorted everything, all we had to do was go to the capital and sign some papers while we were there!!!! The official who conducted the wedding didn't speak in English most of the time... but what he was saying sounded nice!!!!

Holidayed in Malta the year Germany beat England in the world cup! Horns and sirens sounding all night! We stayed in St Julienne and I found it a bit noisy with all the discos going til 3 am. Yes, even then I was a bit of an old f**t. Going back this year for a friend's ordination into the priesthood.

My friend (who is a Maltese national) says:

Of course you can have a secular marriage. Even we Maltese can marry
outside the church. This is a free country and anyone can do as he/she
pleases. It is only if you want a religious ceremony that you notify the
priest. This is done for obvious reasons: first of all because one needs
to book the church premises and secondly because the priest would want to
have a chat with the spouses to be, I guess.

So many British couples opt to get married on our island. Please tell your
friend that her wedding in Malta would be just wonderful!
