Turkey trot

Am going to Izmir, Ankara and Istanbul in October for 8 - 10 days - will be working but should find a bit of free time for sightseeing, shopping. Any suggestions for Izmir and Ankara?

if you like history, the Ankara museum has good collections dealing with some of the earliest human civilisation. It is generally not as intereseting a city as Istanbul, however.
