Went to the Royal Kenz a few months ago. It is a huge, huge hotel that is pretty ok but not top class. Food is reasonable and the pool and beach area of the hotel is very good. Not a lot of activity in the hotel although there is 'entertainment' to watch over a few drinks. The port is ten minutes walk from the front door but ist is a modern concrete port. It has lots of souvenir shops and cafes but you should jump on the Dotto train (road train noddy style) and take a short trip to Sousse. There is the real Tunisia with its souk and Tunisian life.
Cheap place, nice weather, hospitable people but beware of showing too much flesh in public places, they are just not used to it.
Top tip - - when going into a bar ask if the sell wine or spirits. If they say yes then you will get a beer alcoholic style. If you don't ask but go to a bar that sells beer it will more than likely be non alcoholic booze. It is a Muslim country although the Kenz is fully licensed.
