you normally get a tail wind on the way back. Flying into the wind slows the plane down, flying with the wind pushing you speeds it up.
Jetstream
Hi dumbbrunette,

The high altitude winds and jetstream usually blow from the west - from the Americas towards Europe and Africa. When you fly west the plane is usually flying into a head wind. When you fly back towards Europe the plane is flying with a tail wind so it covers the distance quicker.

Hope that explains it.
Nah, it`s cus you`re goin downhill on the way back.
It has half the amount and weight of fuel on the return, so is faster.
Anything to do with the time difference?
WELL another brilliant comment from ethel!! - You really are overdoing it you know.
