Things to do round York?

I have to spend 3 days in York. I know the city, but would like to get out, as the weather's looking good.

Any suggestions for places up to an hours drive away?

lol @ant - i've not done the railway museum, but i've heard it's fab - we went to the dungeons for halifax kids - they loved it and so did i! - but it is just sublime sitting by the riverside with a drink, watching the boats, geese and ducks go by

it really is ant! a summer's day, sat with the ones you love, with your favourite drink, watching boats and ducks - :-)

and it's about 30 seconds from the dungeons...and there are loads of lovely pubs with outdoor seating :-)

All of these things I will have Halifaxmum ! My last visit to York was in 1972 when I was in the 3rd year juniors ! Still got the write-up in my scrap book !

Thanks everyone! We spent 3 days in York, and didn't need to travel out of the city. The railway museum and Castle Museum were great. The heat and humidity on Monday & Tuesday necessitated several visits to the fabulous local pubs to avoid dehydration...

I will save all your suggestions, as we shall certainly go again.

Just a shame it isn't in Lancashire, though!
