can you receive british radio programmes in northern france, including brittany, on an ordinary radio? thanks.

You can on Long wave for a certain distance.
usually Radio5/talksport on MW available in Brittany, you might get off shot of UK radio from Channel islands if near there, but not likely.
VHF (FM) transmissions won't normally carry that far, although you can often pick up some UK stations around Calais (particularly during periods of high pressure).

UK DAB reception is not available in France.

BBC Radio 4's Long Wave transmitter (198 kHz) gives good reception across most of France.

The higher-powered Medium Wave stations, such as Radio 5 Live (909 kHz), TalkSport (1089 kHz) and Absolute Radio (1215 kHz) should all offer reasonable reception.

BBC World Service is lo longer available via Medium Wave. Reception via Short Wave, in Northern France, might be possible. (Check the World Service website for frequencies).
