Off to NZ next year via Bangkok, would appreciate any advice/information of things to do and/or see whilst visiting there.

I'm off to Thailand next week and doing a couple of days in Bangkok. I got a guide book as it's such a vast place packed with stuff you might not want to miss. Apparently a riverboat trip is a must as is a visit to the Giant Buddha (think that's what it's called). I'm organising a plan for the time there which I don't really like doing but with only 2 days to cram everything in it's the best option.

I can't wait, it's our third time to Thailand but we've never been to Bangkok before as the kids were too young. Have a good trip.

When we were there we were told that it was one of a pair but only one is in the temple, the othervone is hidden away.

You can visit the Bridge on the Kwai, see and possibly feed the tigers (Tiger Temple), visit the floating market. For shopping Pantip Plaza is the place for IT stuff, they have rebuilt the Central World Mall (was burned during the riots) and the MBK Centre for all the copy goods. An unusual and very interesting thing you can do in Bangkok is a one day really authentic Thai cookery course. Blue Elephant is one place as are Silom (a lot cheaper) and Bai Pai. Pat Pong is the night market with all the "dodgy" bars but there are plenty of normal bars there as well. There used to be a Thai Elvis impersonator in one of the bars who was a laugh. He might still be there.

If you are there on a weekend, I recommend Chatchuchak market - it's on the Skytrain route, right next to Mo Chit station and is fascinating to wander round - sells pretty much everything including some interesting food to try, live animals (that's not always pleasant to Westerners) and fantastic products for the home.

Bangkok is one of the most vibrant cities in the world. It’s a fascinating place. You will find the many other faces of Bangkok. There are so many temples in Bangkok, if you have an interest in Buddhism or religious architecture, you will love it here.
You must see temples are the Wat Pho which features the 46 meter long reclining Buddha image and Wat Arun, which is just across the river.
Wat Trai Mit is another impressive place to see, as it houses the golden Buddha. It’s the largest Buddha statue in the world made out of solid gold. And it has an mysterious history. You can find out by yourself.
Grand Palace - which is a huge compound that mixes architectural influences from different regions of the world. Seasoned shoppers love Bangkok. It’s a true shoppers paradise.
Water Park of Serithai is located on Serithai Road being a historical road was based on The World War II. Serithai Park is a good atmosphere one in Bangkok. You can travel to the park in your own car or by bus.
