can you carry jars of marmite in your hand luggage when boarding an airplane?
it seems such an expense paying 15 euros to put it in the hold for the sake of 2 jars.

Any hazardous material is banned from carry-on luggage... you could, perhaps, convince the checkers you intend to use it for a make-up base, spider killing or non-toxic wood preservative... but, in the last case, I would advise against lying to government inspectors. They're entirely heartless...

are you saying ryanair are inconsistent?
because i managed to bring back some marmite from malta a couple of years ago. i never gave it any thought until i got past customs(i was just about to remove the 2 jars). but thought lets see what happens.

Worth trying again, you'll probably get them through. Can't you get them in Madrid, we get them from Euroski supermarkets which are throughout Spain.

Problem you might have is that for carry-on luggage liquids, pastes, and gels have to be shown sepearately in those 8'' x 8''clear plastic bags at security. I'm sure Marmite would be classed under one of those headings. The limit is 100 millilitres per item, up to a maximum total of 1.0 litre. Marmite isn't packaged in millilitres, but in grams, with the smallest jar being 125mg, and the biggest being 500mg. What security might make of it, I don't know. But if they were being snotty, they could class milligrams as millilitres and confiscate the lot. Your only defense might be this, but it may not work if you have the biggest size jars...

neti, dont you live in spanish uk, with lots of brits?
madrid has eroski, but i´m almost certain they dont stock marmite. i ´ll have a look tomorow or later.

If security are on the ball yes they will class it as a liquid, paste or gel and confiscate it

sorry 4 wasting everybodys time, i somehow forgot about the 100ml limit rule.
I´ll just have to either pay the 15 euros or get lucky in eroski.

piggynose, I do not mix with the Brits here, I came here to be Spanish, and I came before the hoi poloi ever heard of the place. I only go British at Xmas, crackers etc but couldn't afford to shop in the English shop normally. Defo get Marmite and occasionally Salad Cream from Eurosli
