My fiancée and I are going on honeymoon for 2 weeks in Thailand. We want to know how much money we would need if we were to live fairly lavishly over there. We would obviously like to go to some top restaurants every now and again whilst there. It's not all inclusive, it's just bed and breakfast that's included.

Any info would be appreciated

Thanks

The last time I was out there (around 5 years ago) with my OH, I calculated our spending at around £35 per day for the two of us – and that stay did not include breakfast. And the £35 included everything (but we are not heavy drinkers).

But at that time the exchange rate was around 70 Baht to the pound, it has now dropped to around 50 Baht to the pound (so my £35 per day would now be around £50).

So if you like to hit the bars – and want a no expense spared holiday, I would allow for spending up to £100 per day for the two of you – but I would expect you to have a very good time based on £75 per day.

My other advice is that I found the exchange rate offered in Thailand to be every bit as good as that available in the UK. And of course credit cards are widely accepted, meaning that you don’t have to carry a large amount of cash with you.
Think my daughter (who goes every year) says only take dollars - do not take their currency whatever you do!

She had a manicure, haircut, massage, lunch and a t shirt for $20 lol
I was there last August and prices are not as cheap as they used to be, agree with comment about get your money out there, but do watch the exchange places, they may try to rip you off, better to go to a bank. Also, prices vary depending where you stay, we were in Hua Hin last year and the prices there were a good third less than when we were in Phuket 3 years ago, where the price there had gone up considerably from the time we were there 2 years before that. We took £1500 in sterling with us and came back with £300, 2 adults and 2 kids, we did what we wanted and ate what we wanted, the dearest meal was about £45 and the cheapest was £27 (including drinks), wine is very expensive. Excursions are a bit pricey if booked through the holiday agent.
Sorry, forgot to say, have a great time, it's an absolutely wonderful country.
