We're having a couple of days away,in the past we've done Alnwick castle and gardens,Cragside,Holy Island, but wondered if there are any "hidden gems" that we should see.I fancy going to Chillingham Castle is it worth a visit?Any suggestions would be great.

Northumberlandia (aka, *** Alice) sounds like fun.

:o(
The Chillingham Wild Cattle is worth driving past or, if you're REALLY interested in rare bovine breeds, stopping for five minutes to take a picture. Don't get in the field with them, though :-)

Other than that, I'd suggest having a drive up the Ingram valley. If the weather's good, it's a great place for a picnic. If you're feeling really adventurous, drive up to Linhope (you can park there - they don't mind!) and walk the rest of the way to Linhope Spout.

Thanks Baldric,it's amazing what they've done with such a place. We did see it on tv actually,as we get Tyne Tees news here in N.Yorks.
If you are going to Alnwick, then don't miss the bookshop in the old railway station, home of "Keep Calm and Carry On"

I love old book shops woofgang, and to be honest although we've done the castle & gardens we haven't explored the town properly.
allow plenty of time, its huge...they've got a coffee shop place in it and the food is pretty good, also loads of comfy chairs and reading nooks.
Have you seen the Pitmen Painters' exhibition? Well the Ashington Group as they are correctly known - all miners who went to art appreciation classes after work and created a wonderful collection of paintings. They're on display at Woodhurn museum which in itself is worth a visit.
