Would appreciate a swift answer to this please.
Are we in the UK now allowed to carry extra camera memory cards when flying to the Middle East?
I was stopped a few years ago and told I had to post home my card which virtually cost an arm and a leg!
nobody in the Middle East has ever shown any interest in my memory cards, but as 237SJ says it may depend where you are; I haven't been to the more hardline places.
237SJ - on my first occasion I had to go back to the airport shops and buy a pack of envelopes and a stamp to post my one extra card home- then go through the departure lounge and buy a new memory card to replace it!!
This was in Glasgow Airport....
There is no CAA requirement that says you can`t carry extra camera memory cards onto an aircraft in this country (or worldwide for that matter). You must have encountered a Jobsworth.
I am keen photographer and I carry about 3 to 4 cards with me every time I travel. I have never been asked about it. And I have travelled to almost every country in the middle east.
We are just back from Egypt and this time I had no problem whatsoever with cards I kept in my camera bag- carried on the flights as hand luggage.
Perhaps there is only an issue if you carry any in your pocket....
