Nidri V Maderia
Looking for a weeks break in April or May, my daughter is suggesting Nidri,in Greece, she went there about 16years ago tho' and I am wondering if anyone has visited recently and could tell me if it has been built up and got very touristy. I am also wondering about Maderia, the flowers look wonderful there, but I would like to avoid the Flower Festival I think, it looks so crowded, (plus I hate to think of all those flowers being picked and dying by evening, altho' I am probably in the minority about this?) Is the island as steep as it looks for walking. Any comments or suggestions gratefully received - rosy

I did not go during the flower festival so can not tell you what it would be like at that time. The island is steep but the walks along the levadas (water courses) are supposed to be reasonable. I did not try this as I am lazy. This is well worth a trip
Hi, haven't been to either of these myself but if you want some info on Nidri try having a look on the TripAdvisor site the link for Nidri is below. I often use this site when looking for info on places I want to visit.

Madeira has some steep hills but walking the levadas is very easy and enjoyable. If you stay in Funchal the buses for getting around were very good when we were there. The cable car will take you up from the town to the Botanical Gardens and if you are brave you can come down by a road sledge.
There is an old town as well as the new part for different types of restaurants.
