Has anyone had a holiday in this neck of the woods or can you recommend a company who is a specialist in this area?

TIA

Singapore.....very nice...lots of ads in paper..I just get flight as sis lives there.
Kuoni
Sabah is fantastic - great scuba diving, orang utans, landscape and lovely people

I would recommend Malaysian Borneo over Indonesian Borneo because I prefer the people, their attitude to wildlife and as an ex British colony it has a nostalgic charm in places like Sandakahn

If you are over 50 Saga do an excellent Borneo Trip

Sorry, I cannot abide Kuoni!

Looking for a specialist travel company that covers the rainforest and diving areas plus a general comfy slobbing hotel/beach experience.

maybe you should have said that in your Q ;-0

Thanks Zeuhl, I'll pursue that line.

Zacs, I did say specialist and Kuoni are very definitely a generalist company!!!
The Saga Borneo Rainforest Adventure includes trip to Sepilan Island to see Turtle hatcheries, excursions into Rainforest and to Orang Utan sanctuary at Sepilok

We extended for several days at 5 Star Resort with Dive Centre neat Kota Kinabalu - it was very cheap thru Saga

If you are too young or don't fancy Saga, these people may be worth a look

Or why not use regular flights to get to Sabah, combined with the services of one of the travel agents listed here?

Try Explore Holidays
Sorry
Excursion out to islands was to Selingan not Sipadan

but we stayed the night in a hut on the beach and helping to release the baby turtles was fun

We're a fair bit too young for a Saga tour!!!

Abercrombie & Kent is a generalist in the same way that Kuoni are. I'm really wanting to know about true specialists in the region who can easily put together a multi centre trip rather than me trying to pull together a half arsed itinerary...
Been to Brunei which was fascinating and quite different. That was 12 years ago though and I believe it has become more of a tourist stop lately. Would love to go back. I actually was visiting friends and stayed with a family who worked for the Sultan and got to see lots of things that a tourist would never see.
This lot claim to put together customised North Borneo and they are based in London

Daughter going to Borneo (diving/orang outangs/Mount Kinabalu) in 2014 through Outlook Explorer's-organised for her college. They do a varied itinerary. As a sort of aside- Abercrombie and Kent and Kuoni are 'generalised' travel companies??The prices charged by both companies are huge and they seem to specialise in out of the ordinary places-hardly 'Mickey Mouse' concerns surely?

Mrsspagnoli, thanks for your input. Not sure a student trip is what I am looking for and I really do not rate Kuoni or A&K for holidays.....sorry just not my scene, I prefer to avoid package tours.

I'm trying to find a company who can put together a bespoke itinerary, the flights and accommodation I can do easily myself....it's the transfers and other comfy, concierge services that I want sorting.
Buy a few weekend newspapers, and see which ones have a Travel Advisor/holiday-troubleshooter. I know the Saturday Times does, for one. They like questions such as these, and will usually provide alternative answers, depending on how much you wish to spend.
