I had to go to Bristol on Tuesday for 2 nights, and chose the travelodge anchor rd. We arrived pretty late, 12 midnight, and knackered, after long day. Woke up next day to discover there wasnt any shampoo, nor a remote control. Went to reception to complain, to be told, they never supply shampoo, oh and the remote control was probably nicked. Then was told, i could buy a washbag for a fiver!!
Anyway wont be using this place again, pity really, cuz quite liked Bristol

Wow, no shampoo and no remote control. It reminds me of those TripAdvisor ratings where people give 1 star because they ran out of milk in their complimentary tea & coffee tray.

I prefer to take my own wash stuff for nights away, and if theres no remote, walking to the TV is fairly straightforward. There are a million other reasons why I would never stay at a Travelodge, but these two aren't in there.
I'm not impressed with Travelodge, prefer to use Premier Inn myself.

Blimey, you'll be wanting Breakfast in bed next,
remote control yes
hotel shampoo, no way!
No shampoo or tv remote are pretty insignificant things imo and not worth worrying about.
Well the missing remote is annoying and shows shoddy preparing of the room but not the worst problem in the world, the toiletries (lack of) is clearly specified on their website though so shouldn't be a point of complaint or a surprise.
was it too much of a stretch to try the buttons on the tv?
it's how travelodge keep their prices low - provide only the absolute essentials and leave you to either bring you own or buy everything else.

there are a quantity of these places that don't have a restaurant or even a breakfast room - in Tamworth, the "catering" is provided by the Lidl store that occupies the ground floor, and similarly at Rugby, where the facility is provided by a Tesco Metro.
Traveldoge provide basic no-frills accomodation at a communsurate price - i would not expect shampoo to be provided.

As for the remote control, that would not cause me to view my stay as 'disappointing' - if the room and beds were clean and warm, that is really all you are paying for at this level.

so i was supposed to bring my own shampoo for myself+my girlfriend, interesting, as i cant remember ever having to bother, usually find that hotels supply it due to airline restrictions. especially when you've arrived late, and just want a shower next morning. english telly is a must 4 me, as i dont bother watching in spain. remote control is a must, when your in your bed trying to relax, and zapping.it turned out in the end that the remote didnt matter. we just watched the same channel.
I stayed in a hotel in Swindon a few years ago. Woke up early because of loud street noise. Opened the curtains and there was no glass in the window.

oh and the bed, felt like what i assume a waterbed would be like, too soft, and moved when you moved. window wouldn't open, we were on the 1st floor.pillows weren't a lot of good.
disappointing was me being polite
Travel lodge is the most basic of all Hotel chains £19 a night, you get what you pay for a clean room with a bed.
How much did this cost?
"if the room and beds were clean and warm, that is really all you are paying for at this level."

No, at Travelodge this costs extra. :o)
/// so i was supposed to bring my own shampoo for myself+my girlfriend ///

Well yes, I guess you were, you booked a bargain basement hotel, on line, reading the info provided would have told you what they supply or don't supply as the case may be,
you get what you pay for imo.
The windows are usually restricted in Travelodges so that you can usually open them about an inch. And yes, you are supposed to take your own shampoo for yourself & your girlfriend, budget hotels never supply it. And anyway, I would rather know what I am washing my hair with rather than use some cheap ass detergent ;-)

I personally stay in Travelodges quite a lot, mainly for the price - dirt cheap. I never expect much as you do tend to get what you pay for.
I`ve only stayed in a Travelodge once, for one night. It was supposed to be a twin room but the second bed was a settee. I had to take the cushions off and sleep on them on the floor. That cost £55. I`ve stayed in better Youth Hostels.
You get's what you pay for. Never stayed TraveLodge but frequent stayer Premier Inn, various locations. Beds could not be bettered. They have quality liquid soap in dispenser by both bath and basin. Toiletries to purchase from Reception if you've forgotten your own. I dropped and broke remote control, which was instantly replaced at Reception. But then, I did smile nicely!
I'm wondering if the bowl of exotic fruits, the platter of premium cut cold meats and breads and the chilled bottle of 1893 Veuve Clicquot was missing too...
ah, so you've stayed in a "hotel formule 1" then snags?

:-)
