New York Hotels

Hi, can anyone help with advice on New York Hotels. Price, location etc. There are quite a few similar questions on here, but they are all quite old now. Thanks for your anticipated help.

Midtown is quite central for what most tourists want, prices vary wildly depending on what time of year you go, I went in Dec of 2007, a basic clean room was £200 per night, the same room the following Feb was £70 per night.

We are either going last week in August or school half term in October as wife is a teacher and kids at school.

Fitzpatrick Grand Central`s not a bad little hotel. Quite well situated and the staff are friendly.

A little tip, sometimes package deals are cheaper than doing independent travel so check holiday and airline websites. When I went to Boston a couple of years ago it was £300 cheaper with a BA package than booking the flight and hotel separately, plus you get more protection.

We have always stayed at The Roosevelt and would happily stay there again

I've stayed at The Roosevelt too and found it great and a good location.

The Roosevelt's rooms were average but the general area of the hotel itself had some wonderful features- the lifts and lift lobbies, the reception, the dining/bar areas were all fabulous at the Roosevelt. The price was reasonably (we did a laterooms or similar deal) although the fabulous breakfasts were more expensive than I'd usually pay. I would definitely recommend looking at this hotel.

you can usually get good, cheapish breakfast at local delis, wherever you are in NY. We've always found one is big enough to fill two people.

3 lots of friends have recommended The Roosevelt and 2 mentioned The New Yorker.

The Algonquin is lovely. Not far from 5th Avenue and Central Park. There's all the history of the place, great bar, entertainment and the beautiful resident cat.
There are a good range of prices.

We stayed in the Novotel, Times Square..cant remember the price, but think it was mid-range...but excellently situated for all the main attractions... the only place that was a bit far..to walk from there, was central park.. we got on the subway for that..everything else was a stones throw...Clean bright spacious rooms... great restaurant.. have breakfast there!!
