If a person is very very obese ie can hardly fit onto a typing chair or even larger - would they need to book two seats on a plane - if so how is it done?

i'm off to Florida soon im 6"8" and weigh 22 stone i have booked up on b.airways for world travelers' seats as there is plenty of leg room for me the last 4 holidays i have payed extra to be comfortable but that's my choice!!

Yes while I agree that it can be irritating for others, the principle must be that you pay for YOUR comfort not someone else's. After all, it may be that the seat next to you would remain vacant anyway.
As for airlines - why would they care? But the idea - given the possibility - that any airline would not let you book two seats for yourself at the going rate seems unlikely :-)

Babas, I endured an extremely unfortable flight a year or so ago because the person next to me was so large she was filling her alloted space and some of the space I had paid for. I would have had something to say to the Airline because of this.

What did you say, as a matter of interest? Presumably the plane was also full and you couldn't move?
Of course, on the other hand if the person HAD booked an extra seat it might have been the last one on the plane ...

Why dont they have bigger seats for salad dodgers? They could charge them more for taking up more space & being heavier!....(Pokes wasp nest:-))

Long haul flights should have bigger seats and more extra leg room seats for giants like Bernie.

Yes, obese people should pay for two seats and it does happen but not always. If they turn up and haven`t booked two seats though, they can`t really be offloaded as someone would scream "discrimination". If the aircraft isn`t full, it`s not a problem to just seat them where there is a spare seat next to them, put the armrest up and stick an extension seatbelt around them.

The problem with that ummmm is that larger seats and ELR will take the small of say 2 'normal' sized seats, and that'll bump up the cost of travel for everyone else too.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, just the way it'll be.

The best idea would to buy a ticket in an intermediary class (the class between economy and business) as there is usually more space but it would work out cheaper than buying two economy seats.

It might do a little bit but how many people are so over weight they need two seats? I don't think I've ever seen someone on a plane needing two seats.
