Wander back to the river and get the boat to Greenwich - all the green open spaces with views over London, museums and the queen's House if you like, and Greenwich Market for some proper food and atmosphere. Back into the centre by walking under the river through the tunnel near the Cutty Sark to Island Gardens, then the Jubilee Line to civilisation.
If your visit takes you to the 'square mile' take in the Bank of England museum (feel how much a gold bar weighs) but more importantly go to the Guildhall Art Gallery (not so much for the art) but for the remains of a Roman amphitheatre hidden in the basement. The outline of its original size can be seen in the courtyard at ground level. I think entry is free; it was certainly free on Fridays when I worked in the City.
