We are due to fly to Cyprus at the end of September on a Helious plane.   I am a bit concerned, especially with the news today of another plane having trouble.  Has anyone flown recently with Helios?  Do you think I am a bit silly, after all flying is the safest form of travel.

As you say, flying is the safest form of travel but accidents shake confidence, and in this case it's a very small airline that's had its problems and subsequent bad publicity recently.  Everyone wants to know what happened and the investigation will take time, but in the meantime ALL planes are supposed to be maintained to the same standards.  The Boeing 737 is the world's most popular jetliner and they're what Helios fly but every other operator will want the results quickly.  By the way the plane that crashed had only been in the Helios fleet for 18 months but it was nearly 6 years old having previously been with BA.   If there were doubts about airworthiness they wouldn't be allowed to fly.

Hi Denise,

 I have just retuned today from Cyprus today. My family and i flew out to Cyprus with Helios on August 16th.Unfortunately we were delayed for 2 days on our return as Helios were having problems, due to the disaster, in slotting people on flights to return home. In my opinion they were very proffesional in the way they handled the situation. They put us into a hotel for 2 days full board and they are going to refund us half our air fare. Like the prevous reply said flying is probably the safest means of transport. You are more likely to have a crash in car than in the air.Our friend who lives in Cyprus uses Helios every time he comes back to England and he swears by them and has never had one problem with them.
