flights to Funchal
A friend is trying to find a very cheap return flight to Funchal from Gatwick and return - leaving around the 19th. Sept. and returning about the 3rd. Oct. He doesn't have a computer and I am disabled so am not well up on finding good deals in the way of travel but have been trying, with no success so far, to find something under �200. Any good tips please?

The problem seems to be the dates. BA don't fly to Funchal every day from gatwick, you're lmited to alternate mondays, then every wed and sat. for example, you could go for weds 14th departure at �63 and weds 6th return, which totals, with tax �199.80. This is the direct BA price from their website, which I think is quite good. Other things you could try are booking a package holiday then not taking the accomodation - though this can be difficult in madeira as there is no cheap accomodation.
I think you can also go TAP, but that would probably be via Lisbon.

lastminute.com have flights for �215 but they are with a charter firm which means poor seats, though they are at good times and on the right dates. As I thought, TAP do flights, but they are indirect (via Lisbon) and start at �222.90.
In all honesty, that really isn't bad as there is not a lot of competition or demand for these sorts of flights.

Can't thank you enough for your prompt reply and help. We got onto the BA Website and looked at the dates and prices you had found but, unfortunately, it was a 3 week period and he cannot be away that long. This spurred me on to try harder as you had shown me the way. With a few tweaks to dates and airports etc. (which we did not give any leeway in our first question) we have found and booked a flight with Air Portugal for 21st. Sept. from Gatwick returning to London Airport on the 6th. Oct. (he can manage the change of Airport) and all for �189.90. We have now already got his receipt by Email. He joins me in thanking you again for your help.
