We have just travelled almost 80 miles with a plonker in the middle lane who was travelling at about 65 mph would this annoy you It certainly did me

He's doing 65, so you overtake him then go to the Left hand lane and slow down, so he overtakes you, again at 65, so you overtake him then go to the left hand lane and slow down, so he overtakes .... . . . .
if you wanted to drive at less than 65 in the left hand lane, why did you keep overtaking him then slow down, doesn't make sense?
It is not 'middle lane hogging' if you are passing a constant stream of slower moving traffic in the inside lane. granny grump should have overtaken and then stayed in the middle lane until she was clear of slower traffic in the inside lane before moving back in.

The inside lane is often so full of slow moving lorries that it is effectively 'out of bounds' for faster traffic.

Having read the thread now I can see the situation better. It seems you each had different driving styles where one felt it important to return to the left lane at every opportunity whilst the other thought it more prudent to return only when a decent sized gap was available. Other driving styles can be irksome. But in fairness I find those drivers who are clearly trying to be an ass much more annoying.
