Tunisian Money

Some friends are taking their kids for a two week holiday to Tunisia and I wanted to give the kids some Tunisian spending money. I went there about 15 years ago and I seem to remember that their currency was only available within the country....is this still the case ?

Yes it is still the same. You can only exchange once you are there.

Disregarding the money, is it the best place for a holiday just now? The Tunis museum attack is still fresh in memory.

I recall one holiday about 8 years ago in Tunisia where we were questioned and searched by Tunisian "Security"at the airport on our day of departure BACK TO UK in order to ensure that we did NOT bring any of their currency out of their country. We did have about ten quids worth and they required us to exchange it back to sterling at their own Bureau de change and....needless to say, the rate we got was insultingly low.

Ah yes, fond memories of the twonk behind the counter at 3 am as we were waiting to depart, saying we couldn't exchange our money back to sterling.....
but I made him do it. He probably fiddled us out of a fiver. meh.

I love Tunisia. I hope it settles down again. Same with Morocco - about two weeks after we were there a few weeks back, someone blew up the café we'd been sitting in on Djem el Fnaa. I am sure the beach places in the south are still OK to visit.
