Holidays In Egypt
I have just heard that a nephew of mine has gone to Egypt for two weeks hols, but without telling anyone, including my brother. We have no idea where he is but it is unlikely that he is sightseeing at the Pyramids !
I thought the Red Sea resorts were out of bounds at present, so where else could he be ?

"The areas to which the FCO advise against all but essential travel do not include the tourist areas along the Nile river (eg Luxor, Qina, Aswan, Abu Simbel and the Valley of the Kings) or the Red Sea Resorts of Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada"
"As a precautionary measure, we are advising against all but essential travel by air to or from Sharm el Sheikh. We are not raising the threat level in the resort. The above advice applies only to air travel to and from Sharm el Sheikh"

Talbot....as far as I know, they don't know either. I seem to recall that the same thing happened to Retro some time ago. I have my fingers crossed.
But I can't really understand why anybody would go to places like this now.
Its punishingly hot there....nearly 100 degrees and there are plenty of other places to go to, without putting yourself at risk.

I had what must be the cheapest stay in Cairo. I just turned up at the airport and asked for a price for 3 nights B&B at a cheap Hotel. I was told $10 which I thought was cheap! The room was just a cupboard with a bed and breakfast was an egg on 1/2 a slice of toast, but when I came to pay the bill it was $10 US for all 3 nights. They didn't want Egyptian currency only $ but I had $ notes so it was ok. This was 1988 by the way but still cheap.
Eddie....my late Mum had a wonderful holiday in Egypt, about 30 years ago, and went to the Pyramids, etc. She made it sound very enticing but I wouldn't go near the place these days. Tunisia was really nice as well, when we went in 1999, but again, sensibly out of bounds now.
I am not sure how places like Tunisia are managing these days. From what I could see, they depended 100% on tourism and now all those hotels must be empty. A pity as it was such a friendly country.
I will stick with Cornwall, for the foreseeable future ! Nice beer and pasties as well !
