Taking A Camera Into A Very Humid Environment

calling all photographers out there. I am shortly to be visiting the amazon rain forest and have borrowed a very good camera. I want to know how best to protect it from the humidity. we are travelling on a luxury cruise ship, so will have air conditioned cabins, so when i take the camera out from the cool environment, into a hot and humid one, i expect it will steam up, and have a lot of condensation on it. i don't want to cause any damage to the camera and haven't used a camera in such a damp environment before. any tips.

It should be weather sealed, so rain resistant so humidity should not be too much of a problem, just let it acclimatise as such, leaving it a constant temperature before removing sd card or changing lenses and batteries to stop condensation getting inside. Otherwise it will be fine!

that's useful information thanks. I have read somewhere to keep the camera in a ziplok bag, with some silica gel or something like that to absorb any moisture. I wonder if rice would be ok. I seem to remember my grandson dropping his ipad into the bath, they got it into a bag of rice immediately and left it there for a while, and it has been fine. I don't really know where to get silica gel from, I always throw these sachets away when I get them in deliveries, I should have kept them!!

Just because it's a "Good" camera doesn't mean that it's weather sealed - check with the manual.

I was fortunate in that the ship had a non air conditioned room whre cameras could be left safely. If you take your camera from air con to the open it will be useless for a long time. I even had to remove the lens and dry out the inside with an hair-dryer.

i will ask when we get on board about somewhere non airconditioned. that was what i was concerned about as well, taking it out into the humidity and having to wait ages to be able to use it. i had thought of leaving it outside on the balcony, but don't want to risk losing it or having it fall overboard. it is my grandaughter's camera and i would prefer not to have to replace it as it was rather expensive.
