What kind of clubs are there in Venice? Are there any tattoo and piercing shops?

If you're looking for these kinds of attractions in Venice, then you're likely to be disappointed. It comes as no surprise to me that the official Venice tourism site ( http://www.turismovenezia.it/eng/dynalay.asp?PAGINA=407 ) makes no reference to nightlife at all. Venice just isn't that kind of city. If you want beautiful architecture, imposing museums, magnificent churches, outstanding art, classy restaurants, fine opera and classical music then go to Venice. If you want clubs and tattoo artists try Southend.

It's my friend that needs the stimulating thrill of smoke filled bars, I am just thrill to be able to travel to Venice.

Check the entries under 'Other Nightclubs & Discos'. (One important piece of information I read here is that Italians who enjoy 'clubbing' still refer to the places they visit as 'discos'. If you ask to be directed to a 'nightclub' you'll end up at a strip joint! Take care!).
