I'am planning to fly out to oregon and slowly drive south to san francisco on the most senic routes i can find, ie 101 with the main focus on sequoia's, sequoiadendrons, wildlife, meeting native peoples and just absorbing everything around me and hopefully avoiding the main tourist surge all on a low budget. what would be the best time of the year, places to visit/stay, how many weeks would be needed tocomplete the trip. Any suggestions please ?

I'm not sure about the route, but a great chain of Motel's is www.motel6.com They are everywhere and most have pools. I paid $31 a night PER ROOM in August and most have pools.

Thanks jimmyb01. I've checked out the motel chain and the rates seem reasonable. I may well be pulling into some of them
