Lake Garda Recommendations

I’m looking to go to Lake Garda in late August, early September. Does anyone have any recommendations about where to stay please? There seem to be so many places around the lake. Thanks

There’s a lovely hotel halfway up on the left hand side, which Winston Churchill used to stay in. But there’s little else around there so you’d be reliant on the hotel and may be stuck for things to do. I once stayed in Sirmione, on the south end of the lake, which is a nice place....but the brochure gave the impression the hotel was right next to the lake and overlooked it, when in fact it was hundreds of yards back from it. Get a hotel right by the lake if you can

We stayed at the Palace hotel in Desenzano del Garda a few years ago, and it was very nice. Clean, smart and with views of the lake just across the road.
