in the USA what are I roads

Interstate roads. Mostly freeway (motorway) but some are turnpike (toll motorway). A few may be normal highways though I can't think of any offhand.

Yes, dzug, the I refers to Interstate. They are the largest widest roads that cross the nation. Even numbered interstates generally run east-west, and odd numbered interstates run north-south.

3 number ones dont go anywhere, normally a complete loop around a city, butsome are more of a horseshoe.
