US Air 252 rtn on http://www.cheapflights.co.uk/flights/New-York/Manchester/ for example.

Look out for any fuel surcharges and taxes, but the site is pretty comprehensive and always have deals - links to the agents contacts.

what's a return one-way flight? Anyway, US Air goes mostly via Philadelphia, I think, but you may think the savings are worth the extra air time. You might like to wait and see if any airlines have seat sales in the next month or two, since your trip's some time off.

Go to the Flights sections

Air india are usually the cheapest to new york.
Try opodo.co.uk . Last year I flew with Continental to Newark airport which was just as handy as JFK, in fact better for me as I could get the bus into the Port Authority bus station on 42nd (I think) which was so handy for my hotel, so when checking flights do check out returns to Newark aswell as JFK.
Snap spudqueen! Thats what I did too!
yes, I think Newark is the handiest airport despite being in another state. We flew to JFK this year and had to take taxis ($45 plus tip); buses are cheaper unless there are a lot of you. US Air goes to LaGuardia, I think, also some distance.

I believe Air Iceland is another really cheap option besides Air India

thanks everyone. Return one way flight - I meant return with no stops.......
i went to ny from manc direct....the reason it is expensive is cos there are only 2 airlines that operate that route with direct flights (continental and ba ) (this was 2 years ago tho!) i flew to newark and got the train to penn station which was across the road from my hotel - perfect!!!

If you fly to JFK you can take the Airtrain to link up with the subway for $5. It's a new monorail system which is very efficient and good fun. If you are staying in Manhattan you should take the Airtrain to Jamaica and get the Green subway to Lexington Avenue - right in the heart of the city. You can get a 7-day Metro card that you can use on the subway all day/every day ($21 last time I was there - great value). The only reason I wouldn't want to do this would be if my flight to JFK was a late one.

I agree with chazza - we always use expedia for trips to NY and find the site very good. We, too, are going in September and I've already had some good quotes for fights+ 3 nights in a hotel.
