I'm off on my hols soon and have still no idea what currency to take and how much. I've heard take either sterling, euros or dollas or a mixture of the lot plus some Kenyan Shillings. Any ideas?

Euros within the hotel or the Kenyan Shiling if you wander off somewhere local

Just got back from Kenya and a fellow traveller changed up 50 and got 5 worth of Kenyan Shillings back - and that was from the airport!! As dot.hawkes said - Euros are widely used in Hotels and large shops (in Mombassa etc) but in the villages they deal in shillings. Having said that the locals are not adverse to taking Euros if it means losing your custom if they don't. You just won't get your change in Euros (if they give you any change at all!!). Enjoy it - got back last saturday and the temp had been in the 100s most of the time.
