cigs
Heres a question to any customs officers out there!!
If I was going to a non EU country ie Canary islands, in the airport you can buy 1000 cigs in a large box, now i know that you are allowed only 200 cigs to bring back but someone has told me that if you keep your receipt you are allowed to bring them back to england with you. Please could anyone help with this.

Mushroom25's link shows where the misunderstanding about the receipt has come from - if you buy them duty paid in say mainland Spain where the allowance is 3200, you may be asked to show your receipt to show they are duty paid, and not duty free from somewhere else.
It's not clear WHY you can buy 1000 packs in the Canary Islands - there's nowhere you can legally take them without paying duty.
