or Cascais near Lisbon, near enough to do the Lisbon tourist bit and coach rides to Obidos and Sintraplus the sea.
Algarve too crowded with tourists.
ps I am biased my husband is Portugese.
I absolutely love Portugal. My parents have a house in the Algarve - but up in the mountains near a little village called Monchique. It is really beautiful, and a fair distance from all the touristy areas too - although they are on hand for when u want them! I especially love Lagos, Prai da Rocha, Portimao and gorgeous walks up by my house is too! Love it because it is a home from home...!
hello all you portugal lovers, ive been going there since 1997 and i love the place. ive been to all the places youve all mentioned and agree the algarve is now overcrowded and overpriced. i still visit alvor and prai da rocha to say hi to people ive met over the years, but my favourite place at the moment is costa da caparica nr lisbon. 25km of fantastic beach with a little train that runs up and down with a great little bar at every stop. i stay in the hotel costa da caparica in a sea view room and when you wake up in the morning you are blessed with the most fantastic outlook. and the great part is theres no english, irish, scottish etc bars, its still mainly portuguese. i love it. i really want to go further north and would love to see porto. i will be there at nr end of august going thru sept, but there never seems enough time to do all you want to do. but anyway i love the place and the people and even have several portuguese friends here in england.
My Grandparents are Portguese so I go there pretty often. I absolutely love it. As everyone says Portugal is becoming increasingly touristic especially in the Algarve near Villamoura where my Grandparents live, which is still beautiful. Quarteira, Loule, Portimao, Lagos, Albufeira< total crap! are getting worse :( Although Val de Lobo is beautiful but incredibly expensive. Recommend Lisbon though, the tourists haven't caught on...or even better Goa or Brazil!!
