Looking at a week in egypt poss jan or feb,hoping for advice tips etc,and weather at the time,thanks all in advance .

hi stevie-p where abouts in Egypt? I've been to Sharm in both Jan and Feb. Weather during the day is lovely, not unbearably hot.Evenings can be a little cool, I usually take a light jacket or cardigan, most places for drinks are outside so it can get a little chilly sitting around. Let me know where abouts you're going cos I can give you some advice about Sharm but don't know much about anywhere else in Egypt.

I have been to Egypt in december and the weather was quite nice still warm enough to swim in the red sea, and on visiting valley of the kings, pyrimids etc. it was cooler because ive been told in warmer months it is very hot inside the tombs etc. and they can only be visited in the early mornings.

Hi Stevie, sorry I've been a while getting back to you. Let me tell you about Sharm. There are two main parts to Sharm. Firstly there's Naama Bay, this is the main shopping/ drinks area for tourists. Really nice there. you will get hassled alot about going into shops, I travel on my own there and find that as long as you're polite and chat for a minute they won't hassle you too much to go in. If you do go into shops you really need to barter. I usually start by offering them half of what they originally ask for and then take it from there. If you think it's too expensive walk away, if they think they can't sell it to you at the price you wanna pay they'll let you walk away. In the main walk way in Naama on your left hand side there's a bar called the camel bar. This is the best english bar there, 1st floor they have football on the screens, roof bar has music and normally in jan/feb lots of patio heaters to keep you warm. The other area of Sharm to visit is old town, This is about 10 min drive from Naama, it's much less touristy and I personally prefer it although it is a lot dirtier. Again lots of nice places to shop and eat/drink. One really nice fish restaurant in old town is called the Sinai Star. Try it , it's good. As for getting around, alot of hotels have courtesy buses that will take you into Naama free. If you want to travel on your own, use the blue and white taxis. Always agree a price before you get in, they are a bit mad when driving but you get used to it. Ask in the hotel how much you should pay to go to a certain area and try to stick to that price with the taxi driver, again you need to barter.

A good place to visit is called Fantasia. It's especially good on a saturday as they have a sound and light show and saturday is the english version. If you don't want to pay to see that you can pay about �1.50 to go in, have a wander aroung the shops and restaurants and then at about 11pm there's a free show in the main arena, belly dancers etc. This is lovely, just take a seat, order yourselves a drink and enjoy. I would also recommend a trip into the desert for a bedoiun dinner and camel ride and also if you like snorkelling try either a trip to the blue hole or a boat trip to tiran. We went to Luxor in February 2 years ago and we still think of it as one of the best holidays we ever had. The Valley of the Kings can get unbearably hot in the summer months but in February it was perfect although (as someone else has said) maybe need a jumper in the evening. If this is where you are going let me know and I can maybe give you a few ideas of things we did that might interest you.

only other question......going in jan,late,is it still hotter than uk's summer daytime?
I see from posts that its a bit chilly in the evening,i can cope with that,but my partner will go mad if she dosent tan in the day,ha ha.

ooh sorry just thought of something else. If you are planning only to stay in Sharm and not travel to cairo, luxor etc you do not need a visa. On the plane you will be given a boarding card, if you're sure you're staying in the Sinai region , on the back of the card write "Sinai only" and sign it with the appropriate signature. Then whan you land you just need to go to passport control and they will stamp your passport. This should save you about �15 each. If you are gonna leave the area or are gonna stay for more than 15 days you will need a visa. x

hi stevie don't forget to go to your local gp and see if they run a travel clinic.you will need vaccinations for Hepatitis A and typhoid and an up to date tetanus booster if required.
