i am not 100% sure and so he should maybe check the government websites but Greece sends a huge amount of fresh produce to the UK and so as long as it is for personal use I cannot see on any website that there is an issue. if he looks in the back of the travel brochure in those very lengthy notes in small print, it will give information on where to check for sure.
Customs at all major airports in the UK have the standard leaflet telling you DOs and DON'Ts - tell your friend to ask for it when leaving.
